Since Putin became president of Russia in 2000, he has maintained a relatively amicable relationship with North Korea, often advocating for a diplomatic solution to the ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula. In 2019, Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held their first-ever summit in Vladivostok, Russia, where they discussed issues such as denuclearization and economic cooperation.
